  2.             HARDCARD IIXL AND WINDOWS 3.0

  4. TECHNICAL BULLETIN

  6. When a Hardcard IIXL is installed in a 386 system and Windows 3.0 is 
  7. used, non windows applications can not be run in the 386 enhanced 
  8. mode.  One of the following symptoms indicates a problem:
  9.  
  10.       1) When starting the non Windows application, the screen 
  11.          goes blank and after the following message is received: 
  12.          "Not ready error reading drive X: Abort, Retry, Fail?".
  13.          Press A for Abort.
  14.  
  15.       2) When starting the non Windows application, the system 
  16.          locks up at the non Windows application screen.  There 
  17.          is no keyboard response and a warm boot is required to 
  18.          restart the system.
  19.  
  20. Plus has successfully resolved the problem with the release of 
  21. Version 1.70 of the Plus ATDOSXL.SYS device driver.
  22.  
  23. To check the version of ATDOSXL that you are currently using, turn on 
  24. or reboot your system and watch your monitor for the Hardcard IIXL 
  25. DOS device driver sign on message.  If the version number is below 1.70, 
  26. you may obtain the upgrade by: 
  27.  
  28.                  1) Calling Plus Development:
  29.                     (408) 434-6900  extension 5233.
  30.  
  31.                  2) Downloading from Plus Development's Electronic 
  32.                     Bulletin Board Service:
  33.                     (408) 434-1664.

  35. Please note that Hardcard 20, Hardcard 40, Hardcard II 40, and 
  36. Hardcard II 80 work normally with Windows 3.0 in all modes. This driver 
  37. not work with those Hardcard Products.

  39. INSTALLATION
  40.  
  41. You may change the version of the Hardcard IIXL device driver without 
  42. risk to your data.  Thus, it is not required that you back up your 
  43. drive before implementing this upgrade.

  45.       A. Find the current location of the Hardcard IIXL of the 
  46.          Hardcard II DOS device, ATDOSXL.SYS.  This driver 
  47.          should be found in the root directory.  
  48.  
  49.       B. Copy the new driver from a diskette in drive A as follows:
  50.  
  51.          C> COPY A:ATDOSXL.SYS C:\ <ENTER>
  52.  
  53.       C. Remove the disk from drive A and reboot your computer.  
  54.          Watch for the Hardcard IIXL driver to be loaded.  
  55.      The version number should now read 1.70.
  56.  
  57. Your installation is now complete.  Windows 3.0 can be run in the 
  58. enhanced mode.
